Despite arriving in Puerto Rico only six months after Hurricane Maria had devastated so much of the island, doors began to open for the ministry to begin immediately! In February 2019, a Board of Directors was established and the island of Puerto Rico officially recognized Youth for Christ Puerto Rico as a non-profit organization. In March 2020, Youth for Christ Puerto Rico was officially recognized as a chartered member of Youth for Christ International. We prayed and He answered in His timing. All glory to God! Youth for Christ Puerto Rico has launched several ministry sites in the northwest region of the island with an emphasis on Campus Life in both private and public schools. These Campus Life sites provide a safe place for students to come together with their friends to learn how to live balanced lives, better understand God’s love, and influence the world around them. Along with our year-round ministry model, Youth for Christ Puerto Rico has partnered with several churches, individuals, and other Youth for Christ nations/chapters to host short-term mission teams throughout the year. These teams work alongside the Youth for Christ Puerto Rico staff and volunteers to host youth ministry events, participate in community outreach and continue to help rebuild the island in the aftermath of both Hurricane Maria and the 2020 earthquakes. In October 2020, the Lord made a way for Youth for Christ Puerto Rico to purchase a 10+ acre property in the heart of Aguadilla, PR. This property was once a ministry site for another organization and had been abandoned for 15 years. Youth for Christ Puerto Rico is in the process of reviving and restoring the property with help from volunteers around the island. After almost three years of using other locations and sites for ministry, the Youth for Christ Puerto Rico team is very excited about having their own facility on the island to use for ongoing ministry. The hope for this property is that families from around the island and others from around the world will have a personal encounter with the Lord as they spend time drawing closer to Him.
